Mad Hatters Tea Party : Gamesley’s G52 group hosted a mad hatters tea party on Gamesley on the afternoon of the Thursday 2nd June.
Along with a range of activities, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service attended to providing home safety information, along with High Peak Borough Council / Derbyshire County Council recycling information team.

Gamesley FC Fun Day 2016 : Photo’s from Gamesley FC fun day which took place on Sunday 29th May, aimed at raising funds for the club.
The main event was a Gamesley vets v Hadfield vets match with unfortunately the Hadfield vets side taking the honours 4 – 3.

Glossop Car Show 2016 :Pictures from the Glossop Vehicle Enthusiasts Club Glossop Car Show which took place on Saturday 21st May 2016 in Glossop’s Manor Park and included a road traffic collusion demonstration by the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service Extrication Team.
Whilst alas the show didn’t have similar weather to the great weather from last year’s, many thanks to the organisation and volunteers who put together a great event a wide range of vehicles, from the very old to the completely new and modern like the Tesla.
In addition to the range of vehicles on display, the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service’s extrication team were also running demonstrations of how they get folks out of cars when they’ve come a cropper, with some of the photos showing the later demonstration effectively destroying a newly donated car by removing the roof.
As commented the weather was less than ideal, and due to the soaking during the extraction demonstration, I retired early missing some of the vehicles and this years awards bit – however I did see the new Mayor, who picked as his choice (pictured above) a white ‘Morse’ type Jaguar.

HPBC Annual Council 2016 : Tuesday 17th May saw this year’s annual meeting of High Peak Borough Council.
As part of the annual meeting, which took place in the Pavilion Gardens Grande Marque, there is the installation of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the coming year.
This year’s Mayor is Cllr George Wharmby Conservative councillor for St John’s Ward in Glossop which covers part of Glossop Road on Gamesley along with Charlesworth and Chisworth, the Mayoress will be his wife Cllr Jean Wharmby.
The Deputy Mayor will be Labour Councillor for Buxton Central Cllr Matthew R Stone with his mum and former Deputy Mayor Lynn Stone acting as consort, Matt will be the youngest Deputy Mayor to date on High Peak Borough Council, but has experience of the role from acting as consort when his mum filled the role.

Padfield – Speed Watch :Taking place during “Travel Smart week”, a special session of Community Speed Watch took place yesterday in Padfield.
Padfield is one of the first areas in Derbyshire to have a 20 mile per hour speed limit, and Councillor Nick Longos, along with children from Padfield Primary School’s School Council, Derbyshire Constabulary PCSO’s Brian Buller and Tracey Collins and Speed Watch Volunteers David Marshall and Eric Platt carried out a Community Speed Watch session.
The aim of the session was to highlight the 20 mph speed limit in the village, along with providing an opportunity for the PCSO’s to remind the children on road safety issues.
The session saw around 50 cars go past with most driving within the 20 mile limit either before they approached the group or as the passed the group !
Community Speed Watch take place in a number of areas across Glossopdale, where volunteers work with the Police to monitor and tackle issues around speeding vehicles – for more information contact your local safer neighbourhood team

G52 npower Gamesley Fuel Bank : Gamesley Group G52 working with energy supplier npower launched the first ever Fuel Bank in Derbyshire on Gamesley. The scheme gives ‘Bellies not Bins’ users with pre-payment meters vouchers for gas or electricity, so they do not have to choose between ‘heating and eating’.
Because the scheme gives people around two weeks’ worth of energy, the value of the voucher will fluctuate between the winter and summer months: from April to end October the value will be £30.00 and this will increase to £49.00 from 1st November to 31st March.
First launched in April 2015 with the Trussell Trust, National Energy Action (NEA) and Durham Christian Partnership, the npower Fuel Bank™ has so far been trialled in four areas (Kingston on Thames, Durham, Gloucestershire and the Wirral) and is now being rolled out more widely.
The launch event took place on Thursday 5th May and saw representatives from a range of different organisation, get information about the scheme and how to refer locals to it, the event also provided an opportunity for questions, comments and feedback to npower who are sponsoring the project.

Snow and allotments : Aside from a brief coating, this year (so far) has seen very little snow, with the brief flurry that has arrived coming in at the same time as work has started on creating some new allotments on Gamesley.
In the below gallery, you can see a few photos from the on going works around the allotments, along with a few snaps from the snow.
Jo Brand #HellofaWalk : On Tuesday 26th January, Jo Brand passed through Gamesley whilst her #Hell of a Walk from Hull to Liverpool in aid of Sports Relief.
The photos include the build up to Joe passing which was originaly due to be around 3.00pm but ended up around 2 ½ hours later, however if you’ve seen the news in the last day or so, you will have seen that Jo completed her ‘hell of a walk’ and reached Liverpool, an achievement that is well worth a donation if you can.

Flying Scotsman : A grey visit to a bridge just outside Heywood to catch a few shots of the Flying Scotsman, which was undergoing testing on the East Lancs Railway following its multi million pound restoration.
As is quite often the case, with live events the published time table soon became undone due to some technical problems with supporting equipment meaning that I also got the chance to see another two steam trains whilst awaiting the main event.
