Armed Forces Day – George Edwin Allen

Armed Forces Day - George Edwin AllenArmed forces day is an annual event seeking to recognise the contribution that the armed forces, there families and those organisation supporting our armed forces make.

In the High Peak, this year there was not a specific armed forces day event, but the council hosted a flag raising ceremony in Buxton and Glossop.

Whilst we were there for the event, I met a David Marsden who’s Great Grandad – George Edwin Allen is remembered on the Glossop Cenotaph.

As you can see from the front page with my picture of David and the Mayor on, although his relative George had moved from the area to Blackburn where David resides – but due to his local connection he is only remembered on the Glossop Cenotaph, rather than his adopted home.

With the move and the tragic events in the David’s grandfathers family and life, he has never had contact with the Glossop side of his family, and as per the article if any of them are still about in Glossop, please get in touch and I’ll pass your details on.
